Intermission
A Mid-rise in Chelsea NYC | Fall 2023
W/ Jonny L'Boi
One of the most ambitious projects I have worked on. Intermission is a mid-rise located in the Big Apple. From the start, the goal was to create a building that allowed for easy breaks within the day. From that idea, A grid system was formed, followed by floor plates, and finally a facade.
Research
Through researching schedules, routines, and precedents. Our building prioritizes rest to maximize productivity and general well-being. We created a building that encourages employees to rest by physically releasing employees to rest points.
Approach
From the start, we wanted to create an inviting office building for workers and nearby residents. Looking back at the ideas of routine and repetition, we created a grid system that allowed us to divide spaces into work and relax.
Roastary
One aspect we wanted to have within our building was a place for people to gather and enjoy life. As the main gathering center, the roastery serves as both a break from work and an escape from the city.
Results
The end result was a simple modern and effective building that allows its residents to optimize when they work and relax.
